Personal Thoughts: Friendship

We all go through life the same way, some taking different routes and some getting to the destination longer than others. But we all walk with two kinds of people that help motivate us when we are down, and at times respect the decisions you make. One is family and the other is friends. Religion is the most important out of all of this (my opinion) but let's continue.

Some people can argue that friends are even closer than family. You can tell a friend anything that you wouldn't necessarily tell your family members. Trust is the key in friendships.

We all have friends. Some have more than others and some have had friends for as long as they can remember. Regardless, we all have friends.

The problem with friends are that, at times we don't truly know who is genuine and who isn't.

So what is a real friend?

Does a real friend comfort you when you are upset, feeling irritable? Does a real friend know what you like and what you don't like? Does a real friend tell you when your wrong or right?

Some friendships last forever, most end up short. Why is this?

Is it because if a friend does something small e.g. made an innocent and harmless joke about something you didn't find funny at all the friendship is terminated? Or maybe because you ended up liking the same person and the friendship got terminated because of that?

Is it because when friends have a falling out, both of them are too stubborn to make up or are too headstrong and proud to make the first move?

You can trust someone with everything, then one day in a heated argument over something little you blurt the secrets of your friend that you promised you would keep forever. Then as you stand there stunned thoughts are going through your head. Was that person really your friend to begin with?

They say, a friend who you share secrets with has the power to destroy you. What do you think about that?

Everyone wants their friends to do one simple thing: to be real. So why don't some friends do this?

Transformers 3: Dark Of The Moon [Watched]

I walked into the cinema, purchased my ticket and sat down and watched. Two and a half hours later, I stayed until the ending of the credits to see if there was going to be a hint to another Transformers movie. Long story short:

That movie was intense. In my opinion the best movie I have seen this summer so far. I salute Michael Bay and Steven Spielberg, they did a smashing job.

The action scenes literally blew my mind. I liked how all the dialogue scenes where in the first 30 minutes of the movie and the two hours left was purely on the action and destruction of cars and buildings. It delivered.

"In any war, there are calms between storms. There will be days when we lose faith. Days when our allies turn against us. But the day will never come, that we forsake this planet, and its people." - Optimus Prime

The storyline was gripping straight from the beginning, the legendary Sentinel Prime being brought back to help the Autobots but betrays them and sides with Megatron to restore their lost planet Cybertron and enslave the human race. It was nicely constructed with various scene twists that I did not see coming. Also, with the CGI and special effects plus the human race nearing extinction, I can honestly say that when I left the cinema I was momentarily left speechless
"Years from now they're going to ask us: where were you when they took over the planet? We're gonna say: we stood by and watched." - Simmons

The slow motion movement in the action scenes were epic, seeing bits of metal being sliced from the Decepticons and Bumblebee's transformation to vehicle mode with a first person view shot was genius. It made me (and other people) believe that we were slap bang in the middle of the action. I'm not surprised that the movie made $994,715,769 worldwide. A truly great film.

Moving onto characters: Hugo Weaving is the man. I've said this since 'The Matrix'. He is always consistant and gives top notch performances (even though his voice was used, I still liked it). Peter Cullen who played Optimus Prime was equally as great. In fact, all the voice actors did an amazing job.

I've read a lot of criticisms of this film, one being that the acting from Shia LaBeouf and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley wasn't that great and that the length of the film was not needed. But overall the film was a huge success. That kind of money would get me a Camaro that can actually transform in real life... or a fully functioning metal suit that I can use to fight crime with..(hey, it's possible).

A nice ending to the Transformers trilogy.
I'm giving this film a first ever 5/5. You have to watch this film. I'm not saying anything else that may spoil the film for you.

More reviews coming real soon.

Until then, Enjoy Life.

Green Lantern [Watched]

Hey guys, I'm back. Sorry for the long wait I had problems with my laptop and all my pre-written posts were on it and I didn't want to start from scratch. We are now halfway into the holiday period (summer break) and I wanted to watch as many films as possible. Starting with Green Lantern, directed by Martin Campbell.

When other people watched it they were giving the film bad reviews but I wanted to see for myself. And to be pretty honest, I quite enjoyed it. When I heard Ryan Renolds was going to play Hal Jordan two things came to mind: One, in my opinion the found the perfect guy for the role and two, he acted in both Marvel and DC movies. I'm not sure if he is the only person to have done that but to my knowledge, he is the only one. Correct me if i'm wrong.

"In brightest day, in blackest night, No evil shall escape my sight. Let all who worship evil's might, Beware my power, Green Lantern's light!"  - Hal Jordan

I really liked the origin story at the beginning of the film, partly because I assumed most people didn't know about the green lantern and what they do. The crash scene with Abin Sur was on point and really got me excited to see what was going to happen next.

The storyline was straightforward and direct, but some people thought it was too simplistic and complained about the use of too much CGI. But how can you film a Green Lantern movie without that level of CGI? Most of the members of the Green Lantern Corps are aliens. I just didn't understand.

The action scenes were decent to watch, but I believe that they could have had a stronger villian role. Dr Hector Hammond being exposed to yellow energy could have been so much better.

My favourite scenes were when Hal Jordan was exposed to 'Green Lantern's light' and his eyes slowly turned green and at the end were Thaal Sinestro, played by Mark Strong was seen wearing the fear ring, thus creating the first member of the Sinestro Corps. A potential sequal?

Lastly, the message that the film gave to me personally is that without willpower, then nothing can be achieved. Watching this film actually motivated me that I can do anything if i put my mind to it. A good educational message that I hope people realised. The film made $147,220,209 worldwide.

"No matter how bad things get, something good is out there, just over the horizon." - Hal Jordan
Critics didn't like the film due to it's 'unseriousness' unlike films such as The Dark Knight and X-Men First Class.  I would give the film 3.5 out of 5 a good and commendable start to the Green Lantern story.

Watch out for more reviews coming real soon.
