I've just been relaxing this past summer and to be honest, I didn't feel like writing any blog posts. But now the new educational year has started, im back on the ball.

Apologies to all who took the time to read my blogs, more posts coming real soon.

I've got 3 movie reviews to write, but this year im going to focus more on my Personal Thoughts on things. I sometimes express myself on twitter but I find it much easier to blog about it.

Watch out for that as well.

Hope you guys had a good summer.

Personal Thoughts: Friendship

We all go through life the same way, some taking different routes and some getting to the destination longer than others. But we all walk with two kinds of people that help motivate us when we are down, and at times respect the decisions you make. One is family and the other is friends. Religion is the most important out of all of this (my opinion) but let's continue.

Some people can argue that friends are even closer than family. You can tell a friend anything that you wouldn't necessarily tell your family members. Trust is the key in friendships.

We all have friends. Some have more than others and some have had friends for as long as they can remember. Regardless, we all have friends.

The problem with friends are that, at times we don't truly know who is genuine and who isn't.

So what is a real friend?

Does a real friend comfort you when you are upset, feeling irritable? Does a real friend know what you like and what you don't like? Does a real friend tell you when your wrong or right?

Some friendships last forever, most end up short. Why is this?

Is it because if a friend does something small e.g. made an innocent and harmless joke about something you didn't find funny at all the friendship is terminated? Or maybe because you ended up liking the same person and the friendship got terminated because of that?

Is it because when friends have a falling out, both of them are too stubborn to make up or are too headstrong and proud to make the first move?

You can trust someone with everything, then one day in a heated argument over something little you blurt the secrets of your friend that you promised you would keep forever. Then as you stand there stunned thoughts are going through your head. Was that person really your friend to begin with?

They say, a friend who you share secrets with has the power to destroy you. What do you think about that?

Everyone wants their friends to do one simple thing: to be real. So why don't some friends do this?

Transformers 3: Dark Of The Moon [Watched]

I walked into the cinema, purchased my ticket and sat down and watched. Two and a half hours later, I stayed until the ending of the credits to see if there was going to be a hint to another Transformers movie. Long story short:

That movie was intense. In my opinion the best movie I have seen this summer so far. I salute Michael Bay and Steven Spielberg, they did a smashing job.

The action scenes literally blew my mind. I liked how all the dialogue scenes where in the first 30 minutes of the movie and the two hours left was purely on the action and destruction of cars and buildings. It delivered.

"In any war, there are calms between storms. There will be days when we lose faith. Days when our allies turn against us. But the day will never come, that we forsake this planet, and its people." - Optimus Prime

The storyline was gripping straight from the beginning, the legendary Sentinel Prime being brought back to help the Autobots but betrays them and sides with Megatron to restore their lost planet Cybertron and enslave the human race. It was nicely constructed with various scene twists that I did not see coming. Also, with the CGI and special effects plus the human race nearing extinction, I can honestly say that when I left the cinema I was momentarily left speechless
"Years from now they're going to ask us: where were you when they took over the planet? We're gonna say: we stood by and watched." - Simmons

The slow motion movement in the action scenes were epic, seeing bits of metal being sliced from the Decepticons and Bumblebee's transformation to vehicle mode with a first person view shot was genius. It made me (and other people) believe that we were slap bang in the middle of the action. I'm not surprised that the movie made $994,715,769 worldwide. A truly great film.

Moving onto characters: Hugo Weaving is the man. I've said this since 'The Matrix'. He is always consistant and gives top notch performances (even though his voice was used, I still liked it). Peter Cullen who played Optimus Prime was equally as great. In fact, all the voice actors did an amazing job.

I've read a lot of criticisms of this film, one being that the acting from Shia LaBeouf and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley wasn't that great and that the length of the film was not needed. But overall the film was a huge success. That kind of money would get me a Camaro that can actually transform in real life... or a fully functioning metal suit that I can use to fight crime with..(hey, it's possible).

A nice ending to the Transformers trilogy.
I'm giving this film a first ever 5/5. You have to watch this film. I'm not saying anything else that may spoil the film for you.

More reviews coming real soon.

Until then, Enjoy Life.

Green Lantern [Watched]

Hey guys, I'm back. Sorry for the long wait I had problems with my laptop and all my pre-written posts were on it and I didn't want to start from scratch. We are now halfway into the holiday period (summer break) and I wanted to watch as many films as possible. Starting with Green Lantern, directed by Martin Campbell.

When other people watched it they were giving the film bad reviews but I wanted to see for myself. And to be pretty honest, I quite enjoyed it. When I heard Ryan Renolds was going to play Hal Jordan two things came to mind: One, in my opinion the found the perfect guy for the role and two, he acted in both Marvel and DC movies. I'm not sure if he is the only person to have done that but to my knowledge, he is the only one. Correct me if i'm wrong.

"In brightest day, in blackest night, No evil shall escape my sight. Let all who worship evil's might, Beware my power, Green Lantern's light!"  - Hal Jordan

I really liked the origin story at the beginning of the film, partly because I assumed most people didn't know about the green lantern and what they do. The crash scene with Abin Sur was on point and really got me excited to see what was going to happen next.

The storyline was straightforward and direct, but some people thought it was too simplistic and complained about the use of too much CGI. But how can you film a Green Lantern movie without that level of CGI? Most of the members of the Green Lantern Corps are aliens. I just didn't understand.

The action scenes were decent to watch, but I believe that they could have had a stronger villian role. Dr Hector Hammond being exposed to yellow energy could have been so much better.

My favourite scenes were when Hal Jordan was exposed to 'Green Lantern's light' and his eyes slowly turned green and at the end were Thaal Sinestro, played by Mark Strong was seen wearing the fear ring, thus creating the first member of the Sinestro Corps. A potential sequal?

Lastly, the message that the film gave to me personally is that without willpower, then nothing can be achieved. Watching this film actually motivated me that I can do anything if i put my mind to it. A good educational message that I hope people realised. The film made $147,220,209 worldwide.

"No matter how bad things get, something good is out there, just over the horizon." - Hal Jordan
Critics didn't like the film due to it's 'unseriousness' unlike films such as The Dark Knight and X-Men First Class.  I would give the film 3.5 out of 5 a good and commendable start to the Green Lantern story.

Watch out for more reviews coming real soon.

Thor [Watched]

Another late review, apologies for the wait.

I remember watching the trailer a couple of weeks back and I said to myself, how can they make a film about a god different from all the rest of the films? I couldn't wait to see the fight scenes especially in a film as impacting as Thor. I was expecting lots of lightning and skull crushing blows with that massive hammer and guess what?

It delivered. I left the cinema a happy man. Kenneth Branagh, I salute you.

Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Hopkins and Tom Hiddleston were perfect for the roles of Thor, Odin and Loki, the three people who I believe were the real driving force of the film.

Hemsworth's acting was so on point that I couldn't believe it. Branagh made a wise choice by letting him play the role. Hiddleston's lean look made him the perfect role for Loki. I watched the animated episodes when I was younger and seeing these guys on the big screen making the animation's come to life was top notch.

My favourite scene was when Thor was banished from Asgard and when Odin displayed his disappointment in him. That scene showed me first hand how powerful Odin was and he was still in charge despite Thor chosen to be the next King.

What I really liked about the film was the underlying story behind everything, how Loki wasn't going to be given the throne in the first place because he wasn't Odin's child thus empowering him to seek revenge on him and Thor. He was calm and sinister at the same time, turning against his childhood friends and even his foster parents. What an evil guy.

Also, how Thor wasn't worthy of taking the throne because of his arrogance and quick temper but as the film progresses he was willing to protect a world he doesn't belong to despite not him having his godly powers (even though we knew he was getting his powers back.)

Thor made $435 million worldwide.

I've said this before and I'll say it again: I cannot wait for The Avengers movie to come out.

Ill rate this film 4/5 stars. A decent film to watch.

Once again apologies for the late review.

Until then, Enjoy Life.

Podcasting: Podcast and Website

Hey guys, how you doing? Hope you're enjoying life.

This is my first entry concerning my work from University, it took me a while to decided what to start with so I thought I'd start off with this:

As you all know I study Broadcast Journalism and for one of my modules, I had to create a podcast and a website of any topic of my choosing. I was very excited about the website bit as it was a chance for me to learn how to make a website and to develop my personal skills from it. My topic of discussion was public transport because there was a lot of news circulating about the state of the tubes and I thought if I could keep up with the news, then I would get my work over and done with, but to be honest, it was harder than I thought.

For my podcast, I went out on the streets of London (Camberwell to be precise) to record some vox pops (Voice of the People) about their views on public transport. Once I collected all of them, I used Adobe Soundbooth to edit the sound clips together. That was the easy part over.
The website however gave me problems. Because it was my first attempt to make a website, I didn't have clue on how to start it off despite given a booklet to help me out. Gathering information and pictures was easy enough, but laying it out onto the page was a tad difficult. Long story short, I was given another opportunity to work on my website and I did better the second time around. I think I did a good job despite not using Adobe Dreamweaver before.

If the link doesn't work then let me know. More work related posts coming soon.
Here are screenshots of my website:

Fast Five [Watched]

I can't remember how long ago I watched this but there's no harm done for writing a review for this. Here goes:

In my opinion, this movie was the best out of the all Fast and Furious movies. The action was constantly flowing through the film and the idea of all characters from the previous films in one whole film was a nice touch. We could easily relate to all of them and their skills to get the job done in the end.

The character that made the film big for me was Dwayne Johnson. I grew up watching wrestling and Johnson was in fact my favourite wrestler. To see him go from the wrestling ring to the big screens shows how great of a performer he was. He is able to do children's movies such as 'The Toothfairy' and do action films such as this. I believe that because of his wrestling background, he can take any role and make it believable. He really got in touch with his character and he was a real powerhouse when it came to the fight scenes.

What blew my mind was when they stole a whole vault of money from the bank and drove from one end of the city to the other without getting caught. Not only that, they switched the cash filled vault with the empty vault that they purchased and drove away casually. Left the police, Johnson and everyone else in the cinema baffled.

I would give the film 4/5 stars and if you haven't watched it already, I recommend you do, especially if action films isn't what you normally watch. You won't be disappointed.

Can't wait for the sixth Fast and Furious movie to come out.

Next film review coming in the next couple of days.

Until then, Enjoy Life.

X-Men: First Class [Watched]

X-Men First Class: 4.5/5
The Jidz here. I watched X-Men First Class on Saturday and here is what I think:

Best X-Men Film so far.
I watched the trailer of the film and knew straight away it was going to be a good movie.

James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender made the film such a success that I don't think ill be able to cover it all in this post, but I can try.

This is in fact one of the best comic book adaptation I have ever seen so far. The cast really stepped up to their characters and the storyline was gripping from beginning to end. The origin story of Magneto was so mind boggling I'm considering watching the film again. Congratulations to Matthew Vaughn for making in my opinion the best X-Men film so far.

What I really liked was the way we were able to join all the characters on an emotional and political journey through life from the beginning as a mutant and how they discovered they could use their powers for the good of mankind, but obviously Magneto had doubts about how mankind would react to them and had other ways to get to the same goal. The friendship / rivalry between them was alive and well.

"If you're using half your concentration to look normal, then you're only half paying attention to whatever else you're doing." - Eric Lehnsherr

I also liked the character development of the young mutants Beast, Havoc (Cyclops' brother) Mystique, Banshee, Darwin, Angel Salvador (later on known as Tempest) as well as Eric and Charles as we are able to relate to them so early in the film.

The Hellfire Club was a brilliant touch to the film, they did it for me, especially Azazel (Nightcrawler's father). Jason Flemyng really did a smashing job portraying him.

The cameo appearances of Hugh Jackman (Wolverine) and Rebecca Romijyn (Mystique in the first three X-Men films) along with a brief glimpse of Storm when she was younger really made the film a HUGE success, I'm not surprised that it made 22 MILLION Dollars in it's first week.

Costumes, makeup, location, camera shots, editing, special effects and music was brilliant. I wouldn't have changed a thing.Along with the CGI, numerous fight scenes and the political side of the story, I think that the film deserves a 4.5 out of 5 and if you don't like superhero movies, then this film might change your mind about them in general.

"You want society to accept you. But you can't even accept yourself."  - Eric Lehnsherr
I'll stop here. I don't want to spoil the film for you. And if I have then my apologies.

Enjoy Life.

Radio Show: Live Soundz

Nothing about work but it's more about experience in the field I hopefully will work when I get my degree.

Last year September, I started university at UWL and seeing as I was studying Broadcast Journalism, I planned on getting as much experience as possible. I joined the university magazine group called 'Edify' and joined the Radio Society, where we were given the opportunity to make shows and broadcast them to the public. The station is called 'Blast Radio' and me along with my friend and classmate Jade have a two hour slot on Fridays at 6pm to 8pm. Our show is called 'Live Soundz' and as I said before in my earlier blog, we play music that people of our age group listen to and also spark up any debates that we feel are relevant. We also hold interviews with people we have met and play some of their music that they have made.

Sometimes, we are joined by our friends who do the same course as us who we have met in university and have made a close friendship with, producing some of the best and enjoyable shows.

Due to us finishing our first year, we have to reschedule our times so like I said previously, ill get back to you on this.

However, we might air our LAST show of the year this Friday (even though we haven't been doing our shows because of coursework) but if we don't, then we will concentrate on our return in September/ October.

X-Men: First Class [Haven't Watched]

One letter and three words: X-Men: First Class.

I've been a huge fan of Marvel Comics since I was young (although I didn't own any) but watching the cartoons made me interested in the whole Marvel Universe. I have watched most of the films and I've been impressed at how the directors have put it on the big screen.

I have high hopes that the cast will bring the comic book to life, as they have done in the previous movies.

My Top Three favourite Marvel films I would have to say are:

  1. X-Men Origins: Wolverine
  2. Iron Man 2
  3. Thor
Spiderman 2 and Thor can be debatable, but that's how i see it.

However, the three worst Marvel films i have seen are:
  1. Spiderman 3
  2. Hulk (2003)
  3. Electra
Long story short, I can't wait to watch X-Men First Class, Green Lantern and Captain America - The First Avenger. Hope they will be better than I expect it to be.

Reviews of the films will soon be published.

Until then, Enjoy Life.

Just Helping Out A Friend

Nothing to do with my course but I thought I'd share it with you.

Last week, I was involved in my university fashion show where the fashion students showed their creations. My twin brother was asked a week prior to it but i was involved literally two before the show. One of the models didn't show up and I had to fill the spot.

The guys and myself had to model two pieces of clothing. One was a traditional African wear designed by Sebita Aziz and the other was clothing created by Fumbi, who founded 'FUMSOL LONDON'. He was the guy who asked me to help him out.

From what i gathered, the fashion students had to create six pieces of clothing for their coursework and look for models to wear them. And I have to say, they all did a pretty good job at it.

The African wear I wore consisted of a long sleeve t-shirt, a tight slanted t-shirt and a massive scarf over it. I wore skinny fit trousers with no button and i wore size 10 shoes that were pointed at the top which belonged to Fumbi which completed the look.

The second piece of clothing I wore was a grey suit with a tight navy long sleeve tshirt with a mask and sunglasses with slim fit trousers and long black shoes. I was also given a black bag to complete the look.

The catwalk was dark and I couldn't see anybody (due to me being short sighted and I had to wear sunglasses) but apparently the audience and some of the other models thought i was a professional model. I was surprised yet excited at the same time.

The African clothing and Fumbi's clothing made it to the VIP showcase where only eight pieces were chosen out of the rest ( I can't remember how many) but it was a good experience for me and the other models.

Congratulations to the designers who made it to the VIP showcase and good luck to Fumbi and his Label and also to Sebita, hope you guy go far.

I uploaded some of the pictures from the show plus some F U M S O L clothing.

'The Vengeance' Trailer and Film

This trailer wasn't part of my coursework back in second year college, but because i had lots of free time on my hands, I decided to make one. Watch the trailer then watch the film afterwards. Many thanks to all those who were involved in the film and a huge thanks to the teachers who marked my coursework and gave me a high grade for it.
Hope you enjoy it.

Initial idea behind 'The Vengeance'

My partner and I first got the idea by brainstorming some ideas together about a love triangle gone wrong, which was our main focus throughout the film. We made it a social realist film in order to connect with the young audience such as ’Kidulthood’ and ‘Bullet Boy’, but the added twist was that we wanted to give the story a surreal angle, (hence the mask from ‘V For Vendetta) so that when you watch it, you would then believe that such it was likely that something like this could happen. We planned the story carefully to make it short and simple for the audience to understand.

I'll upload the short film later on today.

Until then, Enjoy Life.

Jide's Film Ideas - Where Do They Come From?

The Jidz here, what you saying?

Unlike many other directors who think about what to write from various ideas and beliefs, maybe from travelling from different countries and gaining further insight of the undiscovered world around them, my film ideas come to me rather than me going to them.
My film ideas start developing from what I see around me, I don’t go out to find an idea, the idea hits me.

The film ‘The Vengeance’ I wrote with my media partner was from a basic idea that most people find themselves in sometimes, Love triangles. But the angle I saw it from was from a surreal point of view, people obviously get angry from situations like this but I wanted to take it further, to push the boundaries of social realist films to a point where when your watching unnatural things happening, you actually BELIEVE it could happen.

Incase you dont understand what I mean, watch it and find out for yourself.

Also I usually don’t blog but im the Head of Multimedia. It’s my duty.

More films soon come, because The Jidz says so.

Until then, Enjoy Life.
